Recently at a Johnston County Head Start site, a group of parents and caregivers celebrated their graduation from the Families Eating Smart and Moving More classes. EFNEP educator Patty presented each participant with a certificate of completion.
Over the course of the program, Patty guided participants through the essentials of building a healthier lifestyle: shopping on a budget, reading nutrition facts labels, practicing kitchen safety, and planning meals at home. Patty also arranged for a special guest to walk the participants through guided physical activities they can do at home, ensuring families had tools for both nutrition and movement.
These families shared changes they are already making at home, inspired by the EFNEP classes. One participant shared that they are now reading nutrition labels, especially looking at the sugars in soft drinks and making healthier choices.
Changing habits is not easy, but this group showed that with the right tools and a motivator like Patty, healthier plates and happier homes are within reach.
Congratulations to the graduates. Keep moving, keep eating smart, and keep inspiring others.
