Every July, Disability Pride Month celebrates the achievements, talents, and leadership of people with disabilities while recognizing the importance of building communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
At United Way of Greater Charlotte, we know that stronger communities are built when every person can participate, contribute, and feel like they belong. That means creating opportunities, removing barriers, and ensuring that people of all abilities have access to the resources and support they need to reach their full potential.
Disability touches every community, every generation, and every walk of life. Yet too many individuals and families continue to face barriers that limit access to education, employment, healthcare, housing, transportation, and community life. Creating a more inclusive future requires all of us to think differently about accessibility and recognize that every person has unique strengths to offer.

Across Greater Charlotte, nonprofits, businesses, educators, healthcare providers, volunteers, donors, and community leaders are working side by side to expand opportunity and strengthen communities. Every partnership, every investment, and every act of service helps make our region more welcoming and accessible for everyone.
United Way of Greater Charlotte is proud to support nonprofit partners that are advancing disability inclusion every day. Organizations like The Arc of Mecklenburg County, Easterseals UCP North Carolina, InReach, Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, and many others provide vital services, advocate for greater accessibility, connect families to resources, and empower individuals to live, learn, and work with dignity.
Their work reflects a simple truth: when organizations come together around a shared purpose, lives change.
Disability Pride Month is also an opportunity for each of us to consider how we can help create communities where everyone belongs. That may mean advocating for accessible spaces, using inclusive language, supporting organizations that champion disability rights, or simply taking time to listen to the experiences of others.
Small actions, multiplied across a community, create lasting change.
This month, we celebrate the resilience, leadership, and accomplishments of people with disabilities throughout Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties. Their perspectives make our workplaces stronger, our neighborhoods more connected, and our communities more vibrant.
For nearly 95 years, United Way of Greater Charlotte has brought people, resources, and organizations together to strengthen nonprofits and neighborhoods. Disability Pride Month reminds us that building a stronger community means ensuring every neighbor has the opportunity to succeed.
