South Carolina State football's scheduled home-opener against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Bethune-Cookman this Saturday has now been postponed, due to the impending heavy rains and winds forecast when Hurricane Matthew reaches the state this weekend.
All S.C. State athletic activities - including the 2016 Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony set for Friday, Oct. 7 - are postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Tickets already purchased will honored at the rescheduled event.
S.C. State athletic officials are still in the process of evaluating when the best time will be to reschedule the game with Bethune-Cookman. According to a source, an announcement is expected to come on Wednesday.
With the Wildcats (0-4 record) having a televised MEAC game scheduled for Thursday night, Oct. 13, there is very little chance the game will be rescheduled for this coming Monday.
The more likely scenario has the B-C game at S.C. State being rescheduled for some time in November. The Bulldogs are 1-3 this season and are coming off their bye week.
Original plans were for the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl trophy to be on display for this game. No update has been made available as to whether or not the trophy will still make a visit to Orangeburg for the new date of the contest.
