CORDOVA - Edisto opened the season with a 3-0 home win against Calhoun County on Wednesday, with set scores of 25-21, 25-10, and 25-9.

Leading the way for the Lady Cougars was Hailey Antley with 13 aces and 4 kills, Ashley Shafer with 5 aces and 7 kills, Hannah Breland with 4 aces and 9 kills, and Ashleigh Bingham with 3 aces, 4 kills, and 13 digs.

Edisto took a 3-0 win at Bethune-Bowman on Thursday, with set scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-12.

The Lady Cougars (2-0-0) were led by Hannah Breland with 7 aces, 8 kills, and 2 blocks, Brianna Brown with 4 aces, 1 kill, and 3 assists, Hailey Antley with 5 aces and 6 kills, and Abigail Bingham with 3 aces and 5 assists.

Edisto's plays Wednesday at Bamberg-Ehrhardt in a tri-match against B-E and Colleton County, starting at 5 p.m.

BAMBERG - Branchville took a 3-1 win at Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Wednesday, with set scores of 25-22, 25-11, 21-25 and 25-15.

The Yellow Jackets (3-2-1) were led by Kelsey Kinard with 19 digs, 11 kills, 7 serve receptions, 6 aces, 7 blocks; Jenna Ott with 20 digs, 10 receptions; Brianna Wiles with 9 kills; Carley Kinard with 13 digs, 14 receptions and 5 kills; and Abby Funchess with 25 assists, 6 aces and 6 digs.

AIKEN - Branchville lost two matches in a tri-match with Aiken (22-25, 12-25) and Lakeside (Ga.) (16-25, 16-25) on Thursday.

The Lady Jackets were led by Carley Kinard with 4 aces and 6 kills, Kelsey Kinard with 7 kills and 3 blocks, Olivia Banks with 5 blocks, Brianna Wiles with 5 kills and 3 aces, and Abby Funchess with 17 assists.

Branchville (3-4-1 record) plays Friday in the Porter-Gaud Tournament against Wando at 4 p.m. and Academic Magnet at 6:15 p.m.

Dorchester Acad. 3

ST. MATTHEWS - Dorchester Academy picked up a 3-0 road win on Thursday at Calhoun Academy, with set scores of 25-9, 26-24 and 25-12.

Savanna Varn led DA with 7 kills, 5 aces, and 5 digs. Melayna Weathers had 3 kills and 3 blocks.

Saylor Judy led with 18 assists and 3 aces.

DA (3-1) will play at home on Tuesday against Jefferson Davis Academy at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at Andrew Jackson Academy at 6 p.m.

Northwood Academy took a 3-1 win against Orangeburg Prep on Thursday, with set scores of 33-31, 25-17, 25-11 and 25-21.

Orangeburg Prep defeated Northwood Academy Thursday 3-0, with set scores of 25-7, 23-25 and 25-17.

Offensive leaders for the JV Lady Indians were Anna Beth Lambrecht with 11 points, 7 aces, and 8 assists, Anna Katherine Evatt with 11 points, 4 aces, and 4 kills, Joni Holstad and Abby Lyn Pantaleon with 2 kills each. Defensively, OP was led by Katherine Lambrecht with 16 digs, and Anna Beth Lambrecht, Anna Brake Plummer, and Campbell Delaney with 8 digs each.

Orangeburg Prep’s next match will be on Tuesday at Thomas Sumter Academy at 5 p.m.

The JV Lady Cougars were led by Janae Darby with 11 aces, and 5 assists, Morgan Dukes with 9 service points (4 aces), Chey Zorn with 3 aces and 2 assists, and Callie Hewitt with 6 service points (2 aces).

Edisto will play next Thursday at Calhoun County at 5 p.m.

WALTERBORO – The Orangeburg Prep Indians opened the 2019 season with a 30-6 win over Colleton Prep on Thursday.

Blake Croft returned the opening kickoff for a 75-yard TD.

Jay Plummer added a two-yard run for one score and a 60-yard run for another.

Croft added another score from 30 yards out to cap off the scoring. Brayden Gramling added a conversion.

The Indians will travel to Savannah, Ga. to face Bethesda Academy on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.

ST. MATTHEWS - Dorchester Academy picked up a 20-0 shutout win on the road Thursday at Calhoun Academy.

DA 2-0, will play at home next Thursday against Hilton Head Christian at 6 p.m.
