LAKE VIEW - An 8-run third inning was the difference on Friday, as the Lady View Lady Gators won the South Carolina High School League Class A Lower State softball title with an 11-3 home win against Branchville.

For Branchville, Destyne Paul had a home run and a double, while Amanda Weathersbee added a double.

The Lady Jackets, who scored a run apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, finished the season with an 18-6 record.

Lake View outhit Branchville 15 to 3, while each team recorded 2 errors.

Raven Locklear pitched a complete-game 3-hitter across 7 innings, helping Lake View secure the win. She struck out 8 Lady Jackets batters.

The Lady Gators will play Dixie in the best-of-three state championship series beginning on Monday.

DA softball takes

two in state play

SUMTER – The two-time defending South Carolina Independent School Association Class A softball state champion Dorchester Academy picked up two wins in the SCISA Softball State Tournament on Saturday.

In their first game, the Lady Raiders took a 13-0 shutout win against Andrew Jackson Academy in just 5 innings. In their second game, the Lady Raiders won 12-2 in 6 innings of play against W.W. King Academy.

DA is now 23-3 and are one win away from making the state finals series and playing for a third straight state title. They play at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday at Patriot Park in Sumter. Opponents would need to take two wins against DA on Saturday to eliminate the Lady Raiders from the postseason.

Payton Jackson got the start for DA to open the state tournament, going 4 innings while striking out 7 in the win against AJA. Hannah Reeves came in to pitch the 5th to complete the shutout.

Savanna Shelton and Reeves led the Lady Raiders at the plate with Shelton going 3-for-4, while Reeves was 2-for-2, HR and 5 RBI.

Against W.W. King, Jackson again got the start, going all 6 innings, striking out 5.

Reeves had 3 RBI to lead DA on offense, while Shelton, Grace Judy and Jackson each had 2 hits.

OP softball falls out

of state tournament

SUMTER – Orangeburg Prep lost its first game in SCISA Class 3A State Softball Tournament on Friday, 19-10 to Augusta Christian.

Then, in second-round play, the Indians were eliminated from contention by a 15-5 loss to Ben Lippen

Against Augusta Christian, OP was led by Bailey Lingston, 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, Alyssa Bukszar, 2-for-4, Lindsay Salley, 2-for-5, RBI, and Jo Jo Wolfe, a hit with 3 RBI.

Against Ben Lippen, Wolfe led the Indians, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a stolen base. Ryn Grubbs, Cierra Banks and Kennerly Bair each had a hit.

CA softball falls in

two games at state

SUMTER – The Calhoun Academy softball team lost its first game in the SCISA Class 2A State Softball Tournament in Sumter on Friday, falling 5-4 to Pee Dee Academy.

On Friday night, the Lady Cavaliers fell 11-5 against Carolina Academy, finishing the season with an 11-8 record.
