VARSITY SOFTBALL

Branchville 18, B-B 0

The Branchville Lady Jackets (6-1 record) started Region 5-A play with an 18-0 win over rival Bethune-Bowman on Monday.

Three pitchers combined to no-hit the Lady Mohawks. Destyne Paul, Olivia Banks, and Anna Crider didn’t give up a hit and struck out 5 in the 3-inning affair.

Destiny Powell, Paul, and Banks had two hits to lead the 10-hit attack for Branchville. Powell collected 3 RBI and Faith Hughes had 2 RBI in the victory.

The Lady Jackets will travel to Holly Hill Academy on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game with the Lady Raiders.

JDA 9, AJA 6

BLACKVILLE – The Lady Raiders of Jefferson Davis Academy pushed their record to 2-6 (1-2 in region) on Tuesday night by defeating Andrew Jackson Academy by a 9-6 score.

Alyssa Phillips pitched for the win for Jefferson Davis.

Leading the Lady Raiders offensively were Kiersten Phillips, 2-for-3 with a home run and 5 RBI, and both Blake Pritchard and Becca Fogle with multiple hits

JDA is back in action on Thursday night hosting Dorchester Academy at 7 p.m.

Calhoun County takes

two from Columbia

The Calhoun County Lady Saints picked up wins of 19-3 and 17-7 on Tuesday against Region 3-2A opponent Columbia High School.

In game one, Zailee Edwards allowed just 3 runs against 4 strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle. Leading hitters for the Lady Saints were Aubrey Broadway 2-for-4, 5 RBI; Kinsley Brown 3-for-4, 3 RBI; Shamya Smith 3-for-4, 3 RBI; McKayla Zeigler 3-for-4, RBI; and Cara Coker 2-for-3.

In game two, Alex Ancik collected 6 strikeouts and the win in the circle. Leading hitters for the Lady Saints were Ancik 3-for-4 and 4 RBI; Smith 2-for-4, 2 RBI; and KatieRae Croxton 2-for-2, RBI.

CC will play again on Thursday at home against Ridge Spring-Monetta.

M. River 17, L. Marion 1

In a match-up between 2 of the 3 waterway-named schools in Region 8-3A, May River got a 17-1 win against Lake Marion on Tuesday.

The Lady Gators were led by Ashley Patterson 1-for-1, RBI; and Rhayna Lee 2 stolen bases.

Lake Marion will travel to play May River on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Lady Gators are 1-2 overall, 0-1 region play.

VARSITY BASEBALL

CA 5, WA 2

KINGSTREE – The Calhoun Academy Cavaliers got a 5-2 road win at Williamsburg Academy on Tuesday night, with Connor Brinson earning the win on the mound.

Brinson went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 14 batters.

Connor Moore shouldered the loss for Williamburg, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs over 6-and-a-third innings, while striking out 9.

The Cavaliers totaled 6 hits, with Matt Layton and Bates Felder getting two hits apiece.

CA is 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in region play. The Cavaliers play next on Friday at home against Thomas Sumter at 6:30 p.m.

HHA 12, PHA 1

The Holly Hill Academy baseball team moved to 1-1 on the season with a 12-1 win in 5 innings against Patrick Henry Academy on Tuesday.

Shane Hawkins got the win for the Raiders with 6 strikeouts.

Leading HHA on offense was Tyler Wright 3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 doubles; Harley Watkins 1-for-1, double, 2 RBI; and Zach Pelloni 1-for-2, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.

JV BASEBALL

WA 9, CA 2

KINGSTREE – Williamsburg Academy picked up a home win against Calhoun Academy on Tuesday night, by a score of 9-2.

CA fell to 0-1 to start the season, as Davis Riley shouldered the loss on the mound, going 2 innings, while striking out 4 batters.

Kade Strickland was 1-for-1 for the Cavaliers, with a hit-by-pitch and a run scored, while Hunter Summers was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The Cavaliers play at home this Friday against Thomas Sumter at 4 p.m.

Hillcrest Men's Golf

Association event

The Hillcrest Men's Golf Association will have a 2-man captain's choice tournament on Saturday, March 23 at Hillcrest Golf Club.

To participate, golfers need to sign up in the Hillcrest pro shop or call (803) 533-6030 by Friday, March 22.

All participating 2-man teams must have a combined handicap of 18 or higher.

The HMGA recently raised and donated $500 to the Tri-County Fellowship of Christian Athletes in memory of Max Runager.
