CORDOVA - The Edisto Cougars opened the season 2-0 under first-year head coach Preston Deaver with Friday's 22-14 home win against the Timmonsville Whirlwinds.
The home team scored in each quarter, getting 7 points in the first quarter, 3 points in the second quarter, six points in the third quarter and 6 points in the fourth quarter.
Senior Jalen Green led the Cougars on offense with 9 carries for 54 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, along with an 80-yard touchdown reception on his only catch of the game.
Senior Dawn Muller led all rushers with 56 yards on 4 carries. Senior quarterback J.J. Nimmons completed 5 of his 6 passes for 120 yards and the touchdown to Green.
Senior linebacker Marques Farrison led the defense with 9 tackles, an interception and 2 forced fumbles. Senior linebacker Donte Jefferson added 8 tackles.
For Edisto's Military Appreciation Night, there was a flyover by Chuck Fogle and Kurt Vongraff in a vintage WWII-era Boeing PT-13 Stearman. Also, at halftime, there was a ceremony to honor all U.S. military personnel, both past and present. There was also a time of remembering the late Doc Davis who was head football coach at Edisto from 1994-2000 and won 49 games on the Cougars' sideline.

GREENWOOD - The Orangeburg Prep Indians opened the 2019 season on the road Friday with a 33-14 win against Greenwood Christian.
The Indians scored the first 27 points in the game and never trailed.
In the first quarter, Will Shaw connected with Nick Shafer on a 27-yard touchdown pass. Peyton Inabinet added the extra point to make it 7-0.
Also in the quarter, A.J. Tolbert scored on a 5-yard run and then again on a 40-yard pass from Shaw. The Indians added a 2-point conversion by Will Summers to close out the quarter up 21-0.
In the second quarter, Summers scored on a 27-yard run and Shaw again found Tolbert, this time for a 52-yard touchdown pass.
Greenwood Christian scored on a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and then again on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Offensively, the Indians were led by Shaw, who was 7-for-13 passing for 181 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. Tolbert had 2 catches for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also rushed 5 times for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Summers rushed 5 times for 59 yards and a touchdown and also caught 3 passes for 53 yards and a 2-point conversion. Summers punted twice for a 44.4 yard average.
Nick Shafer had a catch for 27 yards and a touchdown. Peyton Inabinet was 1-for-3 on PAT kicks.
Defensively, the Indians were led by Kenneth Fogle with 15 tackles, including 2 tackles for a loss. Billy Workman added 11 total tackles. Shafer, Summers, and Harrison Miller each had 7 tackles. Chase Williams contributed 6 tackles, Cade Wiles had 5, and Tolbert had 5, including a tackle for a loss, and an interception.
The Indians will host Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach (0-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

ST. MATTHEWS - The Calhoun Academy Cavaliers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 54-24 home win against Patrick Henry on Friday.
Andrew Tucker had 9 carries for 90 yards for CA, scoring on runs of 12, 7, 41 and 3 yards.
Seth Tyson had 19 carries for 152 yards, with touchdown runs of 7 and 1 yards, along with a two-point conversion. Tyson also connected with Bates Felder for a two-point conversion. Tyson was 3-4 passing for 35 yards.
Evan Inabinet had 12 carries for 88 yards, along with a two-point conversion.
Hunter Warren return a fumble 27 yards for a TD, while also recording 8 tackles with one sack and one tackle for a loss.
Kade Strickland and Inabinet each had nine tackles, while Strickland had a tackle for a loss and a QB sack. Adam Lowder had 4 tackles and a sack.
CA plays at Andrew Jackson on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

BATESBURG - Andrew Jackson Academy opened the season with a 64-0 road win at W.W. King Academy on Friday.
Leading the way for the Confederates was Colyn Peek with 7 carries for 138 yards and 3 TDs, James Mingo with 187 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs, Drake Mathias with 12 carries for 90 yards and a TD, Tucker Cook with a TD, Adam Creswell with 2 TDs, and Trey Pulaski with 85 all-purpose yards and a TD.
On defense, AJA was led by Jonathan Schaffer with 8 tackles, while Creswell and Bug Brunson added 5 tackles each. Cook added 4 tackles.

DENMARK - The Denmark-Olar Vikings opened play in their new stadium with a 26-6 win against Bethune-Bowman on Friday.
The win is the first for first-year D-O head coach Gregory Wright.
The Mohawks (0-2) scored on a 70-yard punt return by Ashon Greene.
Greene also made 4 solo tackles and had 1 strip fumble that he returned 63 yards to the Vikings' 12-yard line late in the fourth quarter.
Also contributing defensively for the Mohawks were Tyreek Jenkins (made or assisted in 11 tackles), TyNathan Luckett (made or assisted in 9 tackles) and Demaredray Kinard with a forced fumble.
Denmark-Olar plays host to Branchville (2-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m., while Bethune-Bowman plays host to North.

LAKE CITY - The Dorchester Academy Raiders (1-1) held a 30-12 lead at the half on Friday, but gave up 22 unanswered points in the second half of a 34-30 loss at Carolina Academy.

BLACKVILLE - In the battle of the Raiders in SCISA 8-man football, Jefferson Davis Academy picked up a 30-28 win on Friday at home against Holly Hill Academy.
For HHA (0-1), Marion Breland scored on a 65-yard punt return, Harley Watkins scored on a 25-yard pass from Crawford Thomas, Zach Pelloni ran in a 2-point conversion, Pelloni scored on a 12-yard run, Tyler Wright caught a 2-point conversion pass from Thomas, and Pelloni scored on a 10-yard carry.
HHA was led in rushing by Wright with 51 yards, Pelloni with 41 yards, and Thomas with 24 yards.
Thomas passed for 100 yards, as Harley Watkins had 50 yards receiving and both Wright and Perrin Breland had 25 yards receiving.
On defense, Wright had 15 tackles, while Pelloni had 12 tackles and Perrin Breland had 11 tackles.
HHA plays host to Clarendon Hall School (1-0) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

SUMMERTON - Clarendon Hall opened the season with a 50-22 home win on Friday against defending state champion Beaufort Academy.
Tyrese Mitchum led the Saints offense with 10 carries for 144 yards and a touchdown. Mitchum also caught a touchdown pass of 14 yards.
Kade Elliott caught 1-yard touchdown pass of 12 yards.
Kylic Horton had a touchdown receiving and a 2-point conversion.
Zyan Gilmore scored 2 touchdowns and a 2-point conversion.
Brantley Hodge scored a touchdown and 2-point conversion.
Michael Josey caught a 2-point conversion.
The Clarendon Hall defense was led by Da’Qavion Miller with 12 tackles. Wells Robinson had a fumble recovery.
The Saints will play at Holly Hill Academy on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
