Carmichael runs for O-W touchdown

Demodray Carmichael (17) of the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins rushes for a seven-yard touchdown during the first quarter against the Lake Marion Gators in Santee on Friday night. The Bruins defeated the Gators 54-0.

SANTEE – The Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins football team defeated the Lake Marion Gators 54-0 in a non-region matchup between the two T&D Region programs on Friday night.

O-W (2-1) used a run-heavy offensive attack to distance themselves from the Gators (0-2) early in the contest. Even with home-field advantage, the Gators couldn’t make many stops defensively or put together a scoring drive.

The second play from scrimmage turned into a major indicator for both teams and how things would play out for the duration of the game.

Junior running back Tre’Erion Thomas of the Bruins took the hand-off on the 40-yard line, made a defender miss, and raced up the middle of the field for a 60-yard touchdown at the 11:06 mark of the first quarter.

The Gators successfully defended the Bruins’ attempt at a two-point conversion, when Jamarris Benjamin intercepted the pass. But that opening score was just the beginning of multiple scores for the Bruins.

O-W found the end zone again in the first quarter. At the 2:10 mark, Demondray Carmichael rushed for seven yards into the end zone. The PAT attempt was no good, making the score 12-0.

The Gators’ best offensive drive came just before the opening quarter ended. Jamarion Jamison single-handedly carried the Gators down to the four-yard line. He started the drive with a 60-yard run down to the seven-yard line. Jamison ran the ball three more times, and on his last attempt the Bruins forced a fumble that was recovered by Devontae Huggins of the Bruins.

Terrian Glover became the third different O-W rusher to reach the end zone in the game. He scurried in for a touchdown from five yards out. Glover added the two-point conversion run for a 33-0 score.

The Bruins forced an interception toward the end of the third quarter. Damien Jackson came down with the Lake Marion pass and returned the interception for three yards. Three plays later, the Bruins scored their only passing touchdown of the game. George threw a quick pass to Nah’Shawn Hezekiah who raced up the Bruins sideline for a 30-yard score. The PAT kick by Aaron Tinker put the Bruins up 40-0.

Antonio Williams and Jordan Hampton both rushed for touchdowns in the fourth quarter, making the score 54-0 after two more PAT kicks by Tinker.
