COLUMBIA – Abbeville totaled 455 yards of total offense on Friday to win the program's 4th straight SCHSL Class 2A state football championship with a 48-14 victory against previously-unbeaten Barnwell inside Benedict College's Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.
The Panthers moved to 14-0 on the season, while the Warhorses finished the campaign with a 13-1 record. It was Abbeville's 10th all-time state title.
Abbeville rushed for 335 yards, led by senior running back Cortney Jackson's 131 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Junior quarterback J.D. Moore completed 3-of-4 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior wide receiver JaBryan Sanders hauled in all three passes, with two resulting in touchdowns.
Abbeville pitched a shutout on defense for most of the night, as Barnwell's only score during the first three quarters came on a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown by Dallyn Creech.
Jamari Chisolm scored on a 35-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach.
The Panthers forced three turnovers, picking off Barnwell quarterback Craig Pender two times and holding him to just 13-for-32 passing for 146 yards.
Abbeville also had a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter.
