SUMTER – Orangeburg Prep defeated Wilson Hall in varsity baseball Friday evening in Sumter by a final score of 4-2.
Trace Furtick improved to 2-3 on the season, with the pitching win, and the Indians improved to 8-5 overall, 2-3 in region play.
Furtick pitched a complete game, striking out 8, waking 2 and surrendering 3 hits and 2 unearned runs.
In the top of the second, the Indians got on the board after Cory Collins led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Evan Lambrecht and went to third as no one covered third. Grant Axson delivered a sacrifice fly to center to score Collins.
After the Barons scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third, the Indians scored again. Furtick hit a double, Timothy Junious entered the game as a courtesy runner. Junious advanced to third on a Will Summers' groundout and scored after Wesley Wells walked and converted an early steal of second.
The score remained tied until the top of the sixth. Nick Pascoe led off the inning with a walk, and Furtick took an 0-2 pitch to left field for a two-run home run, increasing the lead to 4-2.
Trace Furtick faced the minimum 6 hitters over the last 2 innings, striking out 3.
The Indians return to action Monday evening in Darlington, completing an earlier game that was delayed due to rain. Play will begin at 6:30 p.m.
S. Thurmond 14, Edisto 1
JOHNSTON – Edisto lost a Region 5-3A game at Strom Thurmond on Friday, falling 14-1.
The home team outhit the Cougars 12 to 5, but Edisto had 5 errors to just 2 by Strom Thurmond.
The home team had a player each get 4, 3 and 2 hits in the game.
Edisto is 5-7 overall, 1-4 in region play.
W.H. 12, L. Marion 0
SANTEE – Lake Marion was shut out at home by Wade Hampton, 12-0, on Friday in Region 8-3A play.
Hunter Bradshaw shouldered the loss for the Gators, pitching all 5 innings and picking up 5 strikeouts.
Jaquez Davis went 2-for-4 for Lake Marion, to lead the offense. The Gators were led on defense by Michael Darby, with 3 big putouts in center field.
Lake Marion is 4-6 overall, 2-4 in region play, and will host Orangeburg-Wilkinson in a non-region game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Columbia 13, L.Marion 8
COLUMBIA – Lake Marion lost to Columbia on Thursday in a 13-8 non-region game.
Tyrone Mazyck shouldered the loss for the Gators.
Hunter Bradshaw led Lake Marion at the plate, going 2-for-2, while Jaquez Geathers went 1-for-4.
W.H. 25, L. Marion 10
SANTEE – The Lake Marion Lady Gators lost 25-10 in Region 8-3A play on Fridaye defeated by Wade Hampton 10-25.
The Lady Gators were led by Jailyn Bryant 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, 3 steals; Lynn Bryant 1-for-3, 3 steals; Geniyah Way 2-for-3, 2 steals; Jai’Iana Turnage 2 RBI, a steal, Yasmine Richardson, 1-3, 3 steals; Alexius Patterson 2 steals.
Lake Marion is 2-8 overall, 1-4 in region play, and will host Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
C. Hall 20, St. John's 14
Clarendon Hall picked up a SCISA Region 8-A win against St. John's Christian Academy on Friday by a 20-14 score.
Amberly Way picked up the win in the circle, pitching all 8 innings with 11 strikeouts.
Way also led the Lady Saints on offense, going 6-for-6 with 5 RBI, while Lauren Pifer was 3-for-6 with 2 RBI, Olivia Wilson was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI and Bailey Corbett was 1-for-6 with 4 RBI.
The Saints are 6-2 on the season.
