VARSITY BASEBALL

CC 11, Timberland 1 (6 inn.)

ST. STEPHEN - The Calhoun County Saints won their fifth straight game, taking a Class 2A district playoff game 11-1 at Timberland on Tuesday.

A 7-run fifth inning was the difference for CC, which outhit the Wolves 8 to 3, but recorded 5 errors to just 3 by Timberland.

Josh Zeigler pitched all 6 innings for the win, striking out 5, allowing just 3 hits.

The Saints (7-9 record) were led in hitting by Nick Thompson and Jonathon Keller, who each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. J.T. Edwards was 1-for-5 with 3 runs scored, while Zeigler went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.

Fourth-seeded Hannah-Pamplico won against top-seeded Barnwell on Tuesday. CC will play host to H-P on Thursday. 

Jville 13, B-E 2 (5 inn.)

JOHNSONVILLE — Bamberg-Ehrhardt lost 13-2 in 5 innings of play at Johnsonville on Tuesday, in a first-round district playoff game.

The Flashes posted 7 runs in the bottom of the first, while the Red Raiders only managed a run each in the first and second innings.

Johnsonville collected 11 hits, compared to just 6 hits by Bamberg-Ehrhardt.

Brandon Cook pitched all 5 innings for the win, allowing all 6 hits to B-E batters, while striking out 4.

Bryce Chandler shouldered the loss for B-E , going 1-and-2-thirds innings, allowing 6 hits and 9 earned runs, while walking 5 and striking out 3.

Carson Hanna led Johnsonville, going 2-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBI, while Kody Hanna went 2-for-3 with a triple and 4 RBI.

Johnsonville will play the winner of Carvers Bay/Oceanside Collegiate on Thursday.

Cheraw 18, LM 0 (3 inn.)

CHERAW — The Cheraw Braves posted 10 runs in the first inning and 8 in the second to shut out Lake Marion 18-0 in 3 innings in a SCHSL Class A district playoff game on Tuesday.

The Braves collected 13 hits, while the Gators had no hits and one error.

Hunter Polson pitched 2 innings for the win, striking out 5 and allowing no walks or hits. Gethers shouldered the loss, with an inning pitched, 8 earned runs, 7 hits, 3 walks and no strikeouts.

Leading hitters for Cheraw (20-5 record) were: Jacob Gainey 2-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI; and Tegan Griggs 3-3, 2 doubles, RBI.

Wilson Hall 3, OP 0

Orangeburg Prep lost its final region game of the regular season at home on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to Wilson Hall.

OP (10-9 record) awaits the playoff pairings, which will be announced on Wednesday.

Trace Furtick threw a complete game for the Indians, allowing one earned run, striking out 12, walking 2, and hitting one batter. Furtick allowed one hit, which drove in the first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. The Barons scored two runs in the top of the seventh, by way of a walk, a hit batter, and a squeeze play.

For the Indians, A.J. Tolbert had a double and Wesley Wells had a single.

The Indians honored six seniors and their families prior to the game — Grant Axson, Nick Pascoe, Evan Lambrecht, Josh Searson, and Wesley Wells.

CA 7, Northside 2

LEXINGTON - Connor Brinson pitched the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers to a 7-2 road win on Tuesday at Northside Christian.

Leading 3-2 entering the 7th inning, CA posted 4 runs to secure the victory.

CA collected 8 hits in the game, with Seth Tyson going 3-for-4, with an RBI. Also for the Cavs, Matt Layton went 2-for-2 with 2 runs and 2 RBI, while Heath LaChance went 1-for-2 with 2 runs.

CA made 4 errors, compared to just 1 error by Northside.

CA plays host to Dorchester Academy on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., after a junior varsity game.

DA 13, AJA 4

The Dorchester Academy Raiders improved to 13-4 overall (11-3 in region play) with a 13-4 win against Andrew Jackson Academy on Tuesday.

DA will travel to Calhoun Academy on Wednesday, for the final regular season game.

VARSITY GOLF

OP defeats CA

ST. MATTHEWS - Orangeburg Prep defeated Calhoun Academy at Calhoun Hills Golf Complex on Tuesday.

Corey Antley and Matthew Zeigler shot a pair of 41s, Andrew Hunter fired a 42 and Riley Robinson added a 43.

The Indians will finish up the regular season at Orangeburg Country Club in a tri-match against Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Northside Christian (Lexington) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

VARSITY SOFTBALL

DA 14, AJA 5

Dorchester Academy took a 14-5 win against Andrew Jackson Academy on Tuesday.

Payton Jackson pitched for the win for the Lady Raiders, going 6 innings, while striking out 9.

Savanna Shelton led DA at the plate, going 3-for-5, while Kaitlynn Creel was 2-for-4.

The Raiders are now 17-3 overall (10-1 in region) and will travel to play at Calhoun Academy on Wednesday.

Northwood 18, OP 8

SUMMERVILLE - Orangeburg Prep dopped a non-region game to Northwood Academy on Tuesday by an 18-8 score.

Alyssa Bukszar shouldered the loss, pitching for the Lady Indians.

Leading OP at the plate was Cierra Banks, Jo Jo Wolfe and Alyssa Bukszar with two hits apiece. Bailey Livingston, Ryn Grubbs and Lindsay Salley each had a hit.

The Lady Indians will host Wilson hall at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

JV BASEBALL

CA 15, Northside 5

LEXINGTON - Calhoun Academy beat Northside Christian 15-5 on Tuesday in just 4 innings of play.

Davis Riley went 2-and-a-third innings pitching, as he struck out 4 to get the win.

Cale Quattlebaum pitched the last inning-and-2-thirds in relief, while striking out 3.

Leading hitters for the Cavaliers were Adam Lowder 2-4, home run, 2 RBI; Kade Strickland 2-3, RBI; Mac Felder 2-3, RBI, and Andrew Tucker 3-3, 2 RBI.

CA plays at host to Dorchester Academy on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

JV SOFTBALL

OP 20, Northwood 1

SUMMERVILLE - The Orangeburg Prep JV Lady Indians defeated Northwood Academy 20-1 in a non-region game on Tuesday.

Leading hitters for OP were Lauren Belle, Peyton Schurlknight, skyler Stillinger, Anna Brake Plummer and Jana Eddins.

OP will be back in action Thursday, hosting Wilson Hall at 5:45 p.m.
