AJA 9, Edisto 5

BRANCHVILLE - Winning in the hits category by an 8-7 count wasn't enough for the Edisto Cougars on Monday, as they lost 9-5 to Andrew Jackson Academy in an opening-day game in the Yellow Jacket Spring Break Tournament.

Hughes got the start for Andrew Jackson Academy (9-5 record). He went two innings, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out 2 and walking one.

Dylan Tyler started the game for Edisto, going 4-and-2-thirds innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and striking out 2. Will Rickenbaker threw 1-and-one-third innings out of the bullpen.

The Cougars were led on offense by Wesley Brown and Skye Foster, who each had 2 hits.

Hayden went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead AJA in hits.

Branchville 11, O-W 2

BRANCHVILLE - Branchville took an 11-2 home win against Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Monday in the Yellow Jacket Spring Break Tournament.

Branchville (17-1 overall record) got the pitching win from Zach Wiles (3-0), as he went all 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and striking out 9.

Leading hitters for the Yellow Jackets were Jacob Watkins 2-for-2, double, RBI; Heston Thompson 2-for-3 double, triple 5 RBI; Bubba Lytle 1-for-1, 2 walks, RBI; Lee Steedly 1-for-2, RBI.

Branchville plays Andrew Jackson Academy in the winners' bracket at 11 a.m. at Branchville on Tuesday.

Cal. County doubles

up C.A. Johnson

The Calhoun County Saints swept a Region 3-2A doubleheader against C.A. Johnson on Thursday, April 11, by scores of 22-3 and 6-1.

The Saints are the No. 3 seed from their region for state playoffs, marking the fifth straight year CC has made playoffs.

CC hosts Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Thursday, before playing the Bruins in Orangeburg on Friday. 


RS-M 12, Cal. County 11

The Calhoun County Lady Saints suffered a 12-11 non-region loss to Ridge Spring-Monetta on Monday.

Leading hitters for CC were Zailee Edwards 3-for-5 and KatieRae Croxton 2-for-4.

The Lady Saints play again on Monday at home against C.A. Johnson in a Region 3-2A contest.


CA 23, WA 21

ST. MATTHEWS - Calhoun Academy got Patterson Arant a pitching win on Monday, in a 23-21 victory against visiting Williamsburg Academy.

Leading hitters for CA were Sarah Grace Kizer 3-for-3; Coker Carson 4-for-2; Sara Ardis 3-for-3; Jule Dixon 3-for-5, double.

CA (6-4) will play host to Carolina Academy on Tuesday.
