ST. GEORGE – Junior Payton Jackson started in the circle for Dorchester Academy on Monday at home and went the distance pitching to pick up a 5-1 win against Wardlaw Academy in game one of the SCISA Class A Softball State Championship best-of-three series.
The Lady Raiders are playing for their third consecutive state championship.
Jackson scattered 4 hits, while striking out 18 batters.
Sophomore Grace Judy (with a home run) and junior Laura Singletary led the Lady Raiders at the plate, getting 2 hits each.
Dorchester is 25-3 on the season and will travel to Wardlaw Academy in Johnston on Tuesday for game two at 6:30 p.m.
A win for DA on Tuesday would lock up the title, while a loss would force a decisive game three at a neutral site field on Wednesday.

ST. GEORGE – Landon Way pitched 6 innings and allowed just one hit, while striking out 8 batters, to help Dorchester Academy get the 4-0 home win against Richard Winn Academy on Monday in game one of the SCISA Class A Baseball State Championship best-of-three series.
Noah Byron finished the game on the mound for the Raiders, pitching a scoreless 7th inning to pick up the hold.
Ben Stokes and Hunter Hartzog led the Raiders at the plate, both getting 2 hits.
The Raiders are 19-4 and will travel to play at Richard Winn Academy in Winnsboro on Tuesday for game 2 at 6:30 p.m.
A win by DA will secure the third straight state championship for the Raiders, with a loss forcing a decisive third game on Friday at a neutral site field.
