BOWIE, Md. – The Claflin University men’s track and field team is tied for fifth after the first day of the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Bowie State University in Bowie, Md. The Championships will conclude Sunday. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
Domenic Samuel paced the Panthers, capturing gold in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:03.23 to score 10 points for Panthers, who scored 15 points on the day.
Shaquille Shaw finished tied for fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.84m (6'0.50") to score four points and Isaiah Milhouse finished eighth in the shot put with a distance of 11.92m (39'1.25") for one point.

The Panther men also had several competitors to qualify for Sunday’s finals including: Shaw (110m hurdles), Derick St. Jean (400 & 200 meters), Ashtin Knowles (400 meters), and Davion McKnight-Allen (100 & 200 meters).
Kiara Belton was the only Claflin woman to qualify for the finals from day one, winning her 100 meter dash heat in a time of 12.33.
