The Claflin University softball team closed out its 2019 regular season schedule with a doubleheader loss to Augusta University, Tuesday, Apr. 23 at the Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.
The Lady Panthers fell to the Peach Belt Conference's Jaguars 8-0 in game one and 4-0 in game two.
In game one Augusta, now 11-35 on the season, out-hit Claflin 10-2 en route to the shutout win.
LaKaylin Lee and Kadasia Damon were the only Lady Panthers to record a hit in game one.
Lauren Prescott led Augusta with 3 hits, including 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Meredith McLendon went two-for-three with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Bre’Zhay Chambers went 1-and-2-thirds innings, giving up 7 runs, 6 earned, with a strikeout.
Katy Caldwell was the winning pitcher in game one for Augusta.

Claflin was slightly more competitive in game two, with several opportunities to score runs. The Lady Panthers placed 6 runners on the base paths; 4 via hits, one via a walk and one via hit-by-pitch.
Claflin did not take advantage of its opportunities, leaving 5 runners on base, including 2 in scoring position.
Augusta used 8 hits and one Claflin error to score its 4 runs in the contest.
The Lady Panthers got hits in game two from Kayla Cato, Sametra Duck, Jada Ames and Marion Goins.
McLendon and Bella Fernandez had two hits each for the Jaguars.
Chambers was the losing pitcher for Claflin in game two and Morgan Hunter was the winner in game two for Augusta.
Claflin was to play its final regular season game at USC Aiken on Wednesday, but both games were cancelled. The Lady Panthers head to play on Monday in their first CIAA Softball Championship tournament in Salem, Va.
