CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Claflin University women’s basketball graduate guard Ashley Fields and men’s basketball senior guard Triston Thompson are among nineteen Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) basketball student-athletes selected as candidates for the 2019 CIAA Lowe’s CIAA Senior CLASS Award® as announced by the conference office on Thursday.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s CIAA Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete.
Fields, who is currently pursuing a MBA at Claflin University, received her degree in Human Performance in May 2018. She is currently leading the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 16.1 and 7.6, respectively.
Thompson completed his degree in Sports Management in December 2018 and will begin pursuing his MBA this spring. On the season, Thompson is second in scoring at 12.9 points per game and leads the team in assists with 59.
Fan balloting will take place from January 23 through February 20 at LowesCIAASCA.com, the award website that will contain information about each candidate and the overall program.
The male and female winner will be announced during the CIAA Basketball Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina, and presented with the prestigious Senior CLASS Award trophy at the championship games on Saturday, March 2.
