Marion, N.C. – The Claflin University Panthers fell to Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) 6-5, on the final day of pool play of the Division II Independent Baseball Tournament at Lake James in Marion, North Carolina.

 Claflin, now 24-18, finished pool play at 1-3 and will take part in the consolation game on Sunday. The Panthers will play against the tournament fourth-seeded team at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

 Claflin took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning behind a strong performance from starter Makai Holloway, before falling to WSSU for the fourth time this season.

 The Rams rallied for two runs in the ninth, including a game-winning RBI single off Dillon Parker, who relieved Cleveland Westbrook earlier that inning.

 Gerardic Dobbs led the Panthers with home run. Other Claflin players enjoying a productive day at the plate were Kyriq Woods, Edzaviah Paul and Clyde Parker.
