MARION, N.C. – After two days of play in the Division II Independent Baseball Tournament at Big League Camp, the Claflin University Panthers enter the final day of pool play at 1-2.
Claflin was successful in its tournament opener on Thursday, defeating Salem University 17-12 in a contest that took 5-and-a-half hours to play, as the result of two 30-minute lightning delay.
The contest was the first of two games played by the Panthers on the day. Claflin dropped a late-night 13-8 decision to Virginia State University in 11 innings.

On Friday, the Panthers fell to Bluefield State College for the first time this season, 13-6, after Claflin had swept a three-game series from Bluefield State during the regular season in Orangeburg.
The Panthers, now 24-17, will play a final pool play game on Saturday at 3 p.m. against host Winston-Salem State University.
After Saturday's slate of games, teams will be seeded for Sunday's championship round, according to their win-loss record in the tournament.
