MARION, N.C. After two days of play in the Division II Independent Baseball Tournament at Big League Camp, the Claflin University Panthers enter the final day of pool play at 1-2.

Claflin was successful in its tournament opener on Thursday, defeating Salem University 17-12 in a contest that took 5-and-a-half hours to play, as the result of two 30-minute lightning delay.

The contest was the first of two games played by the Panthers on the day. Claflin dropped a late-night 13-8 decision to Virginia State University in 11 innings.
