ALBANY, Ga.— Shaquille Shaw score 19 points and the Claflin University men’s track and field team posted 49, as the Panther men finished fifth at the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Championships were held in Albany Thursday through Saturday. All field events were contested on the campus of Albany State University while Hugh Mills Stadium hosted all running events.
Shaw, who has provisionally qualified for the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 110 meter hurdles, earned his points by picking up gold in the pole vault (3.65 meters), silver in the 110 meter hurdles (14.31) and finishing eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:41.84).
Davion McKnight earned bronze in the 100 meter dash, clocking a time of 10.54 and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.62 to scored 10 points for the Panthers.
Junior You’shi Kirkland finished just out of medal contention in the 400 meters, finishing fourth in a time of 48.21. Kirkland also finished sixth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:07.69.
Additional scorers for the Panther men includes: MarQuette Bizzell (8th-triple jump); Tykeenan Jones (8th-10,000 meters); Michael Asbury (6th-Long Jump); 4x400 meter relay team.
