Will Ford

Former S.C. State tailback Will Ford has battled through injury and personal tragedy since his days as a Bulldog, but that has not stopped him from continuing to pursue his dream of playing professional football.

Will Ford’s pro football dreams have received new life from the Canadian Football League.

The league’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced they have added the former record-setting South Carolina State running back to its roster. This is the Travelers Rest native’s second stint with the CFL after a leg injury cut short his time with the Toronto Argonauts in 2010.

Both the all-time leading rusher in S.C. State and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference history with 4,688 yards and 35 touchdowns, Ford has spent the past two years dealing with injuries dating back to his final collegiate game against Appalachian State in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs and the loss of his sister, Angel, from lupus. He attended the S.C. State Pro Day, but did not run for scouts.

“The last two years have been ... it’s crazy how life takes you,” Ford said in an April 4 interview with the T&D. “I have just been waiting on an opportunity to get out and show that I’m still a good ball player. I know I can help a team and I’m just waiting on a fair shot.”

The Blue Bombers (2-1) are next scheduled to face Montreal this Friday on the road.
