Senior sprinter Tyrell Richard captured the 400 meters in a time of 44.81, helping the South Carolina State track teams to a solid showing at the North Florida Track and Field Invitational Friday at Hodges Stadium.

NORFOLK, Va., — South Carolina State senior Tyrell Richard was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday, while Bethune-Cookman graduate student Deja Davis was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.

Norfolk State junior Jacob Milton earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman sophomore Monae Nichols was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Richard (Sr., Georgetown) turned in the world’s fastest time in the 400 meters this past weekend at the North Florida Invitational, winning the race in 44.81. The 2019 NCAA indoor champion in the 400 meters also set a new facility record with that time – the second-fastest of his career.

Upstate to play Limestone

GAFFNEY – The Claflin University softball team returns to action on Thursday,1, when they travel to the upstate region of the state to face the Saints of Limestone College in a non-conference doubleheader.

First pitch for game one is set for 2:30 p.m. with the second game starting 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
