SC STATE ATHLETICS: More Bullodgs are MEAC All-Timers

NORFOLK, Va. – As the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary during the 2020-21 academic year, the conference office has announced more All-Time Teams, presented by The Home Depot.

SC STATE ATHLETICS: Bulldogs lead way on MEAC All-Time golf, women's tennis teams

Each team is comprised of 50 outstanding student-athletes throughout the conference’s history.

South Carolina State is represented by:

Women’s track and field

  • Esme Austin, South Carolina State: 1982 AIAW First Team All-American, 400 meters, 800-meter medley, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.
  • Angela Carson, South Carolina State: 1981 AIAW First Team All-American, 200 meters, 4x100-meter relay; 1982 AIAW First Team All-American, long jump, 200 meters, 100-meter hurdles, 800-meter medley, 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay; 1983 MEAC Outdoor Championship Outstanding Performer.
  • Sonia Clarke, South Carolina State: 1981 AIAW First Team All-American, 800-meter medley, 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay; 1982 AIAW First Team All-American, 100 meters, 800-meter medley, 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay.
  • Pamela Estwick, South Carolina State: 1981 AIAW First Team All-American, 800 meters, 4x400-meter relay; 2982 AIAW First Team All-American, 4x400-meter relay.
  • Wendy Griffin, South Carolina State: 1982 AIAW First Team All-American, javelin; 1981 AIAW Second Team All-America, javelin; MEAC’s second-best mark in javelin (42.20 meters, 1982).
  • Shamire Rothmiller, South Carolina State: Three-time MEAC Outdoor Championship Outstanding Field Performer (2010, 2011, 2012); MEAC’s second-best mark in javelin (39.29 meters, 2010).
  • Colette Williams, South Carolina State: 1986 MEAC Championship Outstanding Performer.
  • Cordelia Wilson, South Carolina State: Two-time MEAC Outdoor Championship Outstanding Performer (1987, 1988).
  • South Carolina State 4x100-Meter Relay, 1981: Angela Carson, Sonia Clarke, Janice Hinkson and Catherine Horton earned AIAW First Team All-America honors
  • South Carolina State 4x400-Meter Relay, 1981: Esme Austin, Sonia Clarke, Pamela Estwick and Fay Parker earned AIAW First Team All-America honors.

  • David Charlton, South Carolina State: Two-time MEAC Championship Outstanding Performer (1981, 1983).
  • Demek Kemp, South Carolina State: 2019 Second Team All-American, 100 meters
  • Tyrell Richard, South Carolina State: 2018 First Team All-American, 400 meters.

  • Willie Mays Aikens, South Carolina State: MEAC Hall of Fame Class of 1981.
