Florida A&M - the lone Football Championship Subdivision team to have won against South Carolina State this season — is the top-ranked HBCU football team in the land for another week.

But it was SC State's 27-19 victory over Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach this past Saturday — at the Wildcats' homecoming game — that caused a shakeup in the national polls on Monday.

SC STATE FOOTBALL: Battling for MEAC supremacy

In the BoxToRow Coaches Poll, S.C. State (5-2 overall, 3-1 in MEAC) moved up two spots to No. 4, and in the BoxToRow Media Poll the Bulldogs moved up one spot to No. 5.

SC State's MEAC home game this Saturday against North Carolina A&T is a much higher-profile game now, with the Aggies — also carrying a 5-2 record, 3-1 record in MEAC — moving up from No. 4 to No. 3 in both polls.

It will be the only NCAA Division I football game on either the FBS or FCS levels this weekend that matches a Top 5 team against another Top 5 team.

"We need to really be prepared for this week, because they've got as strong of ability as any team I've seen in this league in a long, long time," SC State head football coach Buddy Pough said, when describing N.C. A&T on Monday. "They've got people everywhere that you can think of that are top players in our league. This is the most talented team in our league, by far.

"We've always had good games with A&T since I've been here. We feel like we can play with these guys. We just have to make sure that we do enough to be in it till the very end of the game."

The Aggies are coming off of a 64-6 home win against the Howard Bison in conference play this past Saturday.
