South Carolina State football held its fourth preseason workout Tuesday afternoon amid hot and humid temperatures at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

Tuesday’s practice, the second day conducted in shells (helmets and shoulder pads), lasted a little more than two hours.

SC STATE FOOTBALL: Bulldogs have spirited first practice of preseason camp

The Bulldogs continued to install their offensive and defensive schemes and also placed emphasis on running, in order to assist the players in getting acclimated to playing in hot temperatures.

“I am very pleased with the way the players handled the hot weather and they were able to battle through practice with no problem,” said Bulldogs' head coach Buddy Pough, in his 18th season at the helm of the SC State program. “The guys have entered camp with confidence and are ready to put in work to be better this year.

“A lot of the reason why this team is further along than many teams in the past is due to the fact of how we finished last season. Winning four out of the last five, with a majority of the team returning, that left the guys with some 'unfinished business' heading into 2019.”

Pough and redshirt junior quarterback Tyrece Nick along with senior nose tackle Tyrell Goodwin were featured on the nationally syndicated radio show "Sports Talk" hosted by Phil Kornblut. South Carolina State was the first stop on the annual "Palmetto Pigskin Tour" on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs resume preseason drills Wednesday in a morning practice at 9:30 a.m. in shells, followed by an afternoon session on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., and a wrap up of the week on Friday in a 9:30 a.m. practice in full gear.

SC State will hold Media/Picture Day on Saturday, Aug. 10, beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the Bulldogs first fall scrimmage at 3:10 p.m.

The annual "Meet the Players Day/Fan Fest," hosted by The S.T.A.T.E Club, is set for Saturday, Aug. 17 at noon.

The Bulldogs open their season at home against Wofford College on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. on Willie E. Jeffries Field.

Season tickets for South Carolina State's six-game home schedule remain available. Reserved seating may be purchased by contacting the SC State Ticket Office at (803) 536-8579 or at www.scsuathletics.com.
