The offense showed signs of consistency in this year’s Garnet & Blue spring football game, after knocking off the defense for the second straight year in a 21-14 victory Saturday (April. 14th)
at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium.
The offense wearing the white uniforms on the day used a two quarterback system majority of the game with freshman Tyrece Nick and redshirt sophomore Dewann Ford leading the way.
Ford provided a solid day throwing the football finishing 6-of-10 for 110-yards and two touchdowns, while Nick wasn’t far behind with 3-of-5 for 91-yards and a touchdown, along with 11 carries for 41-yards.
The offense found the end zones on scoring drives from a 31-yard toss from Ford to Jacory Benson. Nick then found his rhythm throwing a 65-yard bomb to Quan Caldwell. Ford then hit Tra’Quan Dubose for a 12-yard toss for his second score on the day.
The defense accumulated its points after stopping drives by the offense – one point for any stop and two points for turning the offense away on a 3-and out.
Linebacker Damu Ford spearheaded the defense finishing with four tackles, three sacks and a hurrie, while Lane Jones added three tackles and Jarrod Jones added two tackles and a sack in the losing effort.
