Former Citadel guard and Keenan High School standout, Tariq Simmons, has signed to play for the South Carolina State Men’s Basketball program for the 2019-20 season, head coach Murray Garvin announced.

“We are very pleased with the signing of Tariq to our program here at SC State. We feel that he is an important piece that we need for next season. He is a guard with the needed skill set that will help us move to the next level.” said Garvin. “Coming from a winning high school such as Keenan and being coached by one of the best coaches in all of high school basketball in Zach Norris, he is more than prepared to take on the challenges here at South Carolina State.”

Garvin noted, “Because he spent a year at The Citadel and Panola Community College, he is certainly ready for his next major role. I want to give credit to my coaching staff for completing this process and organizing the recruiting effort.”

Coming out of high school, Simmons had offers from Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, James Madison, South Carolina State, Stephen F. Austin, Georgia Southern and Wofford.
