MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Claflin University Panthers will be in search of a fourth straight victory when they travel to LeMoyne-Owen College for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) men’s basketball game.
The conference matchup gets underway at 7:30 p.m. (CST) inside the Bruce Harris Gymnasium on the LeMoyne-Owen campus.
Claflin will bring an impressive 4-1 record into the contest that includes a 63-57 SIAC win over Lane College on Saturday. The victory provided the Panthers with their best early-season start under Coach Ricky Jackson.
LeMoyne-Owen is 2-3 following back-to-back home losses to Clayton State (86-83) and SIAC foe Benedict College (87-67).
The contest will feature two of the SIAC top scorers in Claflin’s Jaleel Charles and Rashawn Ellis of LeMoyne-Owen.
Charles has been the offensive leader for the Panthers at 16.2 points per game, along with 9.4 rebounds and 14 blocked shots. He has posted two double-doubles in scoring and rebounds twice this season, University Auburn at Montgomery (19 point, 13 rebounds) and Lane (18 points, 10 rebounds).
Ellis is the main offensive weapon for LeMoyne-Owen, averaging 23.6 points with a season high of 32 points against Benedict.
Claflin has only one other player averaging in double-figures, Benjamin “Tre” Williams at 13.8 points. Jordan Jones is third in scoring for the Panthers at 8.2 points that includes nine three-pointers, tops on the team.
Claflin has won the last two meetings between the teams by the scores of 73-63 and 76-58.
LeMoyne-Owen's last win over the Panthers came during the 2014-15 season by the score of 73-64.
