COLUMBIA — South Carolina right-handed pitcher Taylor Widener was selected Saturday in the 12th round of Major League Baseball draft.
Widener was picked No. 368 overall by the New York Yankees.
Rounds 11-40 of the draft were Saturday.
Gamecock commit and second baseman Carlos Cortes (Lake Howell HS, Florida) was selected in the 20th round (No. 610 overall) by the New York Mets. Cortes announced already he’ll come to South Carolina and opt out of a pro contract.
Right-handed pitcher Wil Crowe was drafted No. 632 overall (21st round) by the Cleveland Indians. He’s said he wants to return to South Carolina.
Commit Dalton Griffin was selected No. 643 overall by the Kansas City Royals.
Right-handed pitcher Matt Vogel was picked No. 750 overall (25th round) by the Tampa Bay Rays.
