
The Orangeburg Post 4 American Legion Baseball team dropped a 5-1 game at home on Friday night in non-league play against Florence Post 1.
The game, which was only added to the schedule this week, saw Florence (22-3 record) jump ahead to a 5-1 lead before the home team plated its lone run.
Orangeburg (7-12 overall, 5-6 in League I) plays again on Tuesday against West Columbia at Brookland-Cayce High School at 7 p.m. in a non-league contest. More makeup games from previous rainout dates could be rescheduled for the next 2 weeks, before Post 4 opens state playoff competition.
On Friday, Post 4 scattered 6 hits, with Andrew Isgett and John Mack each getting 2 hits. Noah Bearden stole 2 bases and scored the only run for the home team.
Orangeburg did not commit an error in the contest.
Florence posted 9 hits, with Will Hardee leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance.
Rae Rae McGirt pitched for the Florence win, going 5 innings and allowing just 5 hits and a run, while striking out 7 batters.
Heston Thompson shouldered the loss for Orangeburg, going 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 3 batters.
Mack pitched 2 innings of 1-strikeout relief for Post 4.
