FLORENCE – The Orangeburg Post 4 American Legion Baseball team dropped its third straight game in tournament play on Sunday, falling 9-1 to Horry County Post 111 in the fifth-place game of the Post 1 Invitational at American Legion Field.
Post 4 (2-3 record) returns to action on Tuesday at Mirmow Field, hosting Manning to open League 1 play at 7 p.m. Three more games will follow during the week, with Orangeburg playing Charleston at Cane Bay High School on Wednesday at 7 p.m., Hampton in Orangeburg on Thursday at 7 p.m., and Dalzell-Shaw at Thomas Sumter Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.
Saving some pitching arms for four games this week, Post 4 pitched 4 pitchers in Sunday's contest. Horry County collected 11 hits, compared to just 5 hits for Post 4.
Horry County posted 5 runs through the first 3 innings.
Orangeburg only scored in the fourth inning, plating a single run when Deuce Bailey drove in Heston Thompson with the team's lone score.
Hanks Avinger led Post 4 on offense, going 2-for-3, while Bailey went 1-for-3 with the RBI, and both Thompson and Will Rickenbaker each went 1-for-3.
Noah Bearden got the start on the mound and shouldered the loss, going 2-and-a-third innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and a walk, while picking up a strikeout. Bryceton Bramlett, Ben Journey and Wesley Brown each pitched in relief, with Bramlett collecting 3 strikeouts.
