A Charleston-based solar company announced in May its plans to construct two solar farms in Calhoun County.
Southern Current LLC announced its plans to build Lone Star Solar LLC and WSW Solar LLC.
Lone Star is a 66-megawatt project that will sell energy to Dominion Energy. The solar project will be situated on about 490 acres near State Road 287 (Maybrick Creek) and Lone Star Road near Cameron.
WSW is a 30-megawatt project on about 314 acres on Caw Caw Road and Murph Mill Road in St. Matthews.
Calhoun County Council approved incentives for the solar company including entering the projects into a joint county industrial park.
The joint county industrial park is a mechanism designed to provide an industry with additional incentives. There is no physical park.
