Promoting physical and social play for children who may not otherwise have access to an outdoor play space.
Building a well-connected community that encourages a blend of diverse and interlocking relationships.
These are just some of the benefits of the Michael G. Salley Community Park, which is scheduled to be completed by February 2019 on Kings Road in Orangeburg.
The result of a collaborative effort between Orangeburg County and Edisto Habitat for Humanity and funded by a recent grant from the Central Carolina Community Foundation, the park will bring smiles, laughter and happiness to this neighborhood.
Named for Michael G. Salley, the park is a perfect reflection of his commitment to Orangeburg and Habitat for Humanity.
For more than two decades, he has made the dream of home ownership come true for many Orangeburg County families. Salley has dedicated a large portion of his life to civic volunteerism. He co-founded Edisto Habitat for Humanity in 1989.
He is know as the “Edisto Habitat Father” and has donated more construction hours over the last 25 years than any other volunteer in the local organization.
