ORANGEBURG OUT OF THE PAST

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department, 1949: The Sheriff’s department was responsible for maintaining the peace throughout the county. In this era resident deputies were assigned areas around the various towns in the county. From left to right: Front Row: George Shuler, Carolyn Fogle(later Binnicker), Ed Connelly, Brabham N. Collins, and Sheriff George L. Reed. Second Row: Palmer Lancaster, D.T. Livingston, Colie Rowell, Dreher Gaskin, Paul Gibson, and Ed Weathers. Palmer Lancaster was the grandfather of current Orangeburg Senator Brad Hutto, and Mrs. Carolyn Fogle Binnicker later served as the Acting County Treasurer and the Delinquent Tax Collector for Orangeburg County.
