Two men were arrested on multiple charges on Feb. 25 after a traffic stop on Calhoun Street for a faulty headlight. Officers detected the odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle and saw a marijuana roach in plain sight, according to the incident report.

While searching the vehicle, officers located a grinder, numerous pipes with marijuana residue in them, some “shake” (marijuana dust), a piece of marijuana, a Rock Island .45 caliber model 1911 pistol and numerous long guns. Neither man in the vehicle had a criminal history, and both were cooperative, the report states.

One of the men, a 19-year-old Heritage Highway resident, was charged with simple possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and possession of a concealed weapon. The other subject, a 23-year-old Norway man was charged with simple possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A female passenger in the vehicle was not charged.

Police were dispatched to the Relax Inn on Main Highway at about 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 26 in reference to a domestic call in one of the rooms. Officers were met by 21-year-old Denmark man who said his girlfriend had broken the room window and destroyed the room. He told police that he had pushed the 20-year-old Denmark woman out of the room.

Officers noted alcohol spilled on the floor and an open alcoholic beverage on a stand. Furnishings in the room were turned over. Police located the woman coming out of another room holding a baby and interviewed her. She told the officers that a verbal argument between her and the man had turned physical. According to the report, the woman had a bruise on her arm and an injured lip.

Both the man and the woman were arrested and charged with fighting. The woman had someone come to pick up her baby.

Police were dispatched to the Bamberg Job Corps Center in reference to drug activity on Feb. 28. A BJC employee informed officers that drugs were discovered during a search of a student’s locker. The drugs consisted of two marijuana joints, a small amount of marijuana and some pills.

The 20-year-old male student (no hometown listed) was charged with simple possession of marijuana.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Branchville man who was found passed out in the cab of a truck with empty beer cans inside. Someone had called police when they saw a suspicious vehicle behind a home on Heritage Highway about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 21. Police woke the man up and arrested him for disorderly conduct.

Police were alerted to a fight between a man and a woman in the road on U.S. 301 near EZ Shop #1 at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 19. Both individuals involved were placed under arrest. The 24-year-old Hartsville, man was charged with fighting, and the 46-year-old Society Hill woman was charged with open container and fighting.

An 18-year-old Denmark man was charged with simple possession of marijuana on Feb. 16 after being stopped on U.S. 78 for not wearing his seat belt.
