BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. (AP) — An 11-year-old girl was killed and another child hurt in a gang shooting during a party at a South Carolina home, investigators said.
Several homes and vehicles in a Batesburg-Leesville neighborhood were damaged in the 10:40 p.m. Wednesday shooting, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a statement.
The girl killed was identified by the Coroner's Office as Tashya Michelle Jay. The name and age of the other girl wounded were not released, but authorities say she is expected to recover.
Many people were still at the scene of the shooting at the party when officers arrived, Koon said.
The sheriff said no arrests have been made and he is asking anyone who knows something about the shooting to call deputies as they try to unravel what happened.
