Reigning Miss USA Kara McCullough, a South Carolina State University graduate, said returning to Orangeburg for Homecoming brings back great memories.
“It’s actually nostalgic to be back,” she said. “I’m so thankful. This is actually like my second home in a sense, after high school when I left Virginia Beach.”
She said her favorite part of being back in the city is “the morale, the family, the kinship.”
Wherever she goes there’s always someone connected with South Carolina State, she said.
“I saw another Bulldog in the airport, so you are able to know you have family everywhere you go, whether you’re in New York, in Atlanta, in Virginia, in South Carolina,” she said.
“So being back and knowing there’s a family and a tight-knit community is what’s really important,” she said.
McCullough will be the grand marshal for S.C. State’s Homecoming Parade Saturday morning and will attend other Homecoming events.
