A 19-year-old from Orangeburg is accused of shooting his friend in the leg.

Jhakell Daquan Williams of 910 Harper Street is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The charges stem from the Jan. 20 shooting of a 20-year-old man.

That afternoon, Orangeburg County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim at the Regional Medical Center.

The victim stated said he did not want to talk with authorities about the incident.

Deputies then spoke with an individual who brought the victim to the hospital.

The driver said he was on Corona Drive when he heard gunshots. He pulled into the apartment complex and saw the victim on the ground.

Williams appeared in bond court this week where a magistrate denied setting bond.

If convicted of attempted murder, Williams faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.

Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime is punishable by a mandatory five-year sentence, if he’s convicted.
