The Performing Arts Youth Theater, a children’s theater wing of The Calhoun Players, will hold its five-week summer theater camp July 8 through Aug. 11 at the Cameron Auditorium on Highway 33 in Cameron.
Classes will be held from 9 a.m. until noon Mondays through Thursdays.
The Performing Arts Youth Theater provides children ages 3 to 18 with instruction in the art of acting, improvisation, audition techniques, singing and dancing. Its founder and director, Peggy Hirth, serves on the Calhoun Players Board and has 30-plus years of theater experience as an actor, singer and director in community, dinner and regional theaters.
“The overall emphasis of this program will be to train students in all aspects of the performing arts and to enable each child to perform at a level where they can excel. It will allow our young people to become more self-assured, which hopefully will positively affect other areas of their lives. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!” Hirth said.
The camp concludes with three performances of the musical Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10, with a 3 p.m. matinee Sunday, Aug. 11.
Camp registration will be at 9 a.m. Monday, July 8, at the Cameron Community Club cafeteria building, next to the Cameron Auditorium, for 6 to 18 year olds, with tuition at $150. Registration for 3 to 5 year olds will be at the same location at noon Tuesday, July 9, with tuition at $50. (The 3 to 5 year olds will only come on Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for rehearsals.)
A reduced rate is available for families with two or more children enrolled in the camp, as well as for any child who will be absent from the camp for a family vacation or other commitment.
