DENMARK -- The Voorhees College Men’s Basketball Team will be the No. 7 seed in the Cramer Bracket for the 2019 National Association Intercollegiate Athletics Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.
The Tigers will play the College of Idaho Yotes, the No. 2 seed in the bracket, in the first round of the tournament, which will be held at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Tigers, who are the No. 25 team in the country in NAIA national rankings, will be competing against the No. 5-ranked Yotes on Thursday, March 7, at 12:15 p.m.
Head men’s basketball coach Derrick Mitchell said the team could not have made it this far without all of the supporters and the institution cheering them on along the way.
“We are going against a competitive team during the first round. My team is ready for the challenge and was made for this opportunity,” Mitchell said.
Junior guard Alex Brooks, who also is No. 1 in the country for the most steals, said to make it to the championship is worth all the challenges and hard work put in during the season.
“We are undefeated home at home and the recent champions of the AII Conference Tournament. As a team, we have collectively achieved many rankings and positive career stats. It is now time to combine our knowledge and passion for the game to give it our all during the tournament,” Brooks said.
For senior guard Javari Albergottie, who has hit more than 100 3-pointers in one season, this is his final NAIA Championship.
“God has blessed our team to be afforded the victories we have. This is our last stop on our journey this year and mine with the team. It has been an honor playing at Voorhees and working with Coach Mitchell and Coach Jenkins. At nationals, we are looking forward to making history,” Albergottie said
