DENMARK – Voorhees College alumnus Dr. Leroy Staggers has been selected to be the 2019 Homecoming parade grand marshal.

Voorhees alumnus to host step show

The parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, on Maple Street in downtown Denmark. The parade will conclude in front of the viewing stand on campus.

Voorhees raises $10,700 during UNCF luncheon

Staggers was recently named the 10th president of Morris College. He has been a part of the Morris College family for more than 25 years. Staggers joined the faculty of Morris College in 1993 as an associate professor of English and was later appointed the chairman of the Division of Religion and Humanities and served as director of faculty development.

In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Staggers remains committed to teaching. He frequently teaches English courses and enjoys working with students in the classroom, directly contributing to their intellectual growth and development.

Previously, he served as vice president for academic affairs, associate professor of English and director of faculty development at Barber-Scotia College. Further higher education experience includes chairman of the Division of Humanities and assistant professor of English at Voorhees, and instructor of English and reading at Alabama State University.

He is a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church (JMBC), where he served for five years as chairman of the board of trustees of the JMBC Christian and Academic School.

Voorhees Division of IAD fulfills fundraising goal for upgrades

Staggers is a Kingstree native who grew up in Salter.

He is also a 2019 Hall of Fame inductee. The Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Tickets for this event are $75 and may be purchased by going online to www.voorhees.edu.
