Claflin University President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale got a strong work ethic from growing up on his parents' farm in Kingstree. It has served him well as Claflin's eighth president.

Dr. Henry N. Tisdale is announcing his retirement as Claflin University president at a news conference Tuesday morning.

Tisdale will serve as president until June 30, 2019, when he will complete 25 years as Claflin’s eighth president, according to a university statement notifying media of the 11 a.m. press conference.

In a statement in advance, Tisdale said, ““I am honored to serve Claflin in this leadership role. I am thankful for the Claflin community that embraced my hopes, dreams and vision for the University. I never felt alone in the process to move the University forward. This has been a rewarding journey and a mission to make a difference.”
