Many area schools will be closing Thursday in anticipation of Hurricane Michael. Some schools will be cutting their days short Wednesday as well.
"Heavy rains and tropical storm force winds are expected to impact the area beginning Wednesday afternoon and lasting throughout the day on Thursday. These conditions make it unsafe for school buses to operate and transport students to and from school," Orangeburg County’s school district superintendents said in a joint statement Tuesday.
In Orangeburg Consolidated School District 3, Lake Marion High School will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. All other schools will follow their usual early dismissal schedules.
In OCSD4, all schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
In OCSD5, elementary schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. Middle and high schools will dismiss at noon.
All after-school activities are cancelled for both Wednesday and Thursday for all three school districts.
Calhoun County schools
Calhoun County Public School District will dismiss schools early Wednesday and close Thursday.
Sandy Run and St. Matthews K-8 Schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and Calhoun County High School and the district office will dismiss at 1 p.m.
All after-school activities are cancelled.
Bamberg County schools
The schools will be open Wednesday but after school programs have been canceled.
Bamberg School Districts 1 and 2 will be closed Thursday, Oct. 11, due to anticipated weather conditions.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College
The college will close the campus at 5 p.m. Wednesday and has canceled all night classes.
Individuals will be informed by 4 p.m. Wednesday about the status of Thursday's schedule.
South Carolina State University
South Carolina State University will be closed on Thursday. The university will operate on a normal schedule for Wednesday.
Claflin University will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will remain closed through Thursday. This includes all classes and activities.
The university will return to normal operations at 8 a.m. Friday.
The university dining center will operate from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday for brunch and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for dinner.
Late-night dining will be available from 10 p.m. until midnight on Thursday. Pizza Hut, Jazzman's Cafe and the 1869 Club will be closed Thursday and resume normal operations Friday.
Orangeburg Preparatory Schools are operating on a normal schedule Wednesday. The schools will be closed Thursday.
Holly Hill Academy will be open Wednesday with a decision about Thursday to be made if the weather dictates.
Orangeburg Christian Academy plans to operate as normal.
Voorhees College will be open Wednesday. Students are on fall break the rest of the week.
Denmark Technical College is operating on a normal schedule.
St. Paul’s Daycare and Kindergarten will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday and will be closed Thursday.
