CHARLESTON - The assistant director of the Charleston Museum is highlighting a new book on Revolutionary War prisoners in the South.
Carl Borick is scheduled to lecture and sign his book Tuesday at the museum. The book is entitled "Relieve Us of This Burthen: American Prisoners of War in the Revolutionary South, 1780-1782."
Burthen is an archaic form of the word burden.
Borick's book focuses on prisoners captured by the British in the South, most of whom were held in Charleston.
The book deals with not only how men were captured, but how they were treated in captivity and chronicles some of their escapes from the British. The book, the first to deal with such prisoners in the South, is published by the University of South Carolina Press.
