The South Carolina State University National Alumni Association recently announced that during the Alumni Weekend held at S.C. State during the weekend of May 10, alumni classes celebrating their reunion raised $1.2 million, a 200% increase from the previous year.
Gifts to S.C. State -- which support academic programs, scholarships and athletics -- have increased over the past few years. The university’s alumni giving participation rate continues to climb as the National Alumni Association is continuously challenging all alumni to get connected and commit to giving to the university. Alumni giving rates affect rankings as well as revenue. By 2022, South Carolina State University National Alumni Association aims to increase its alumni giving rate to more than 30%.
“SCSU Bulldogs are some of the most loyal sons and daughters and generous people anywhere,” said John J. Funny, president of the SCSU National Alumni Association. “Because of them, we’re reaching new levels of fundraising success and engagement. Their giving helps raise South Carolina State University’s profile and supports our university’s many accomplishments. Together, we are making exciting progress, and we are thankful for every member of our donor community.”
Alumni and friends across the world also supported SCSU National Alumni Association during its “One Hundred Days of Giving.” The 100 days challenge was done to celebrate the association’s 100 years of existence and drew more than 500 gifts. Donors will be honored at the association’s National Alumni Convention, scheduled to take place on the campus of S.C. State July 18-21.
“Giving to one’s alma mater stands at the beautiful crossroads between paying the school for benefits it has imparted to oneself, but then also paying the school forward for the benefits one’s gift will impart to others," Funny said.
South Carolina State University National Alumni Association is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization with an established mission of perpetuating the bond between South Carolina State University and alumni to increase level of communication, promote positive lifelong relationship and foster loyalty.
