ATLANTA -- South Carolina State University alumnus and Atlanta businessman John J. Funny is offering scholarships for high school graduates.
The Sadie Grice Funny Scholarship Foundation was founded in 2002 in loving memory and tribute to Funny’s mother, Sadie Grice Funny.
The scholarship honors her for the tremendous sacrifices and contributions she made to the lives of her children to ensure that they were all properly educated and were offered the opportunity to attend college if they chose.
Funny is the youngest of her 11 children. As a successful businessman in Atlanta, he is president and CEO of Grice Consulting Group (www.thegricegroup.com).
Funny graduated from Choppee High School in 1983 and South Carolina State University in 1987, where he received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering.
Funny serves on many local, national and international boards and commissions. He is the national president of the South Carolina State University National Alumni Association and in that role holds an ex-officio seat on the S.C. State Board of Trustees.
Graduating high school students may visit the foundation’s website (www.sgfsf.org) to complete the online application for scholarships. The deadline for application submittal is June 30, 2019.
The scholarships winners will be awarded at the Sadie Grice Funny Scholarship Foundation black-tie, star-studded gala event on Nov. 16 at the Marriott Gateway Airport Hotel in Atlanta. Tickets for this event can be purchased on the foundation’s website. Sponsorship opportunities are also available on the website.
Additionally, the Sadie Grice Funny Scholarship Foundation will host a free youth leadership workshop for high school 11th and 12th graders on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Marriott Gateway Airport Hotel in Atlanta.
