Owned by Orangeburg and Calhoun counties, the Regional Medical Center health care system includes a 286-bed, acute-care hospital and primary care and specialty care practices. The RMC system serves the rural counties of Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and Barnwell.

The emergency department at the Regional Medical Center went into temporary lockdown at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. That lockdown has been lifted.

RMC Vice President of Marketing and Strategy Carol Y. Koenecke-Grant said that a patient with a gunshot wound arrived in the emergency department. The lockdown is protocol whenever a gunshot wound patient arrives.

The lockdown was in place while the gunshot victim received treatment in the emergency department.
