Orangeburg native and S.C. State University alumnus Broadus J. Jamerson, right, who recently retired as executive director of the S.C. State Employees Association, was presented with the state's highest civilian award - the Order of the Palmetto - Wednesday by Gov. Nikki Haley during a special ceremony at Thee Matriarch. Haley praised the retired Army veteran for his service to his country and the Palmetto State. Also addressing the gathering were state Rep. Jerry Govan, SCSEA state board member and former president Joe Benton and William "Bill" Hamilton, a former state board member and current president of the Orangeburg Chapter of the SCSEA.
