ORANGEBURG -- The funeral for Queen Esther Funchess-Miles, 80, of 1585 Blewer Road, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at Edisto Fork United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ellis White Jr., officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in the Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cope.
Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2018.
Mrs. Funchess-Miles died Nov. 5, 2018, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born May 31, 1938, to the late Carrie Mae Busby and Abraham Funchess in Cope. She received her heavenly wings on Nov. 5, 2018.
Queen was educated at George Washington Carver School, graduating in 1957. At an early age, she moved to New York City and worked at Allies Workers as a seamstress for 30 plus years.
Queen was joined in holy matrimony to Robert Lee Miles for 38 years. To this union, two children were born. She enjoyed making her children clothes. After retiring, she moved back to Cope and fell in love with fishing. Always sharing a 'mess' of fish with everyone.
At an early age, she joined Calvary United Methodist Church which merged into Edisto Fork United Methodist Church. She was a faithful member until her health declined.
Immensely thanking Aunt Mookie (Mary) for taking care of Mom while we worked. Special thanks to Grove Park Hospice for all their love, care and comfort. Thanks to Tonya, Della and Karen Heatley for also being there for our Mom.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Miles; sisters, Ann Hampton, Mamie Lou Bovain and Louise Guinyard; brothers, John, Marion, Ulysses Guinyard and Richard Green; and a grandson, Alphonso 'AC' Crosby.
Those surviving to cherish her memories are three daughters, Shelia Miles and Juanita (Robert) Noel of Cope, Elaine (Alphonso) Crosby of Bamberg; two sons, Tyree (Vicky) Miles of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Frederick (Sandra) Ross of Woodbridge, Virginia; a grandson reared in the home, Kigh; two sisters, Willie B. Funchess and Mary Wright of Cope; other grandkids, Demetrius, Jeryl, Cameron, Jaleesa, Trinity and Thiry; one great-grandchild, A'layla; a brother-in-law, Buddy Miles of Burlington, North Carolina; five sisters-in-law, Virginia Aye of Brooklyn, New York, Barbara Ann Miles, Caroline Miles of Burlington, North Carolina, Mary Guinyard of Cope and Rosa Guinyard of Cordova; a special cousin, Floria Mae Franklin; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
