DENMARK -- Tony L. “T-Bird” Steely, 59, of 199 Cotton St., Denmark, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at the Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Franklin United Methodist Church, Denmark. Entombment will follow in Bamberg County Memory Gardens.
Born Nov. 13, 1949, to the late Theodore and Helen Steely in Denmark, he was educated in the public schools of Bamberg County. At an early age, he relocated to New York City, where he worked as a cook at Metropolitan Hospital. Upon his return to his hometown, he enrolled at Voorhees College, where he also worked as a security officer. In September 2001, he married the former Sharron Wearing. Tony went on to become a professional long-distance truck driver; this offered him the chance to travel all 48 states and parts of Canada and Mexico. Tony was a dedicated member of Franklin United Methodist Church, where he served on the gospel and male choirs, as a trustee, usher, and he also served with the United Methodist Men. “T-Bird,” as he was known to family and friends, sang and played the guitar for The Sons of Job, Jerry Mack and the legendary Roy “C.” He was also a member of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC. Surviving are a loving wife Sharron L. Steely of the home; two children, Derrick (Michelle) Williams of Columbia and Alaysia Steely of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Joe L. (Ethel) Steely of Leesburg, Florida; three sisters, Dorothy Douglas of Washington, D.C., Emma Branch of Brooklyn, New York, and Ruphine Steely of Denmark; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Denmark Chapel of Carroll Mortuary will be in charge of the services.
Friends may call at the residence or at the fellowship hall after the entombment.
