DENMARK -- Funeral services for Samella Sanders Washington, 79, of 5851 Capernaum Road, Denmark, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Honey Ford Baptist Church, Denmark.
Mrs. Washington passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at tRMC.
She was born Oct. 2, 1938, to the late Samuel D. and Elzona Tyler Sanders in Bamberg County. At an early age, she joined the Honey Ford Baptist Church. Here she served faithfully, while belonging on the Usher Board and the Missionary Board. Samella attended the school systems of Denmark. Later in life, she went on to receive her high school diploma after going to night school. She worked for many years at Sunbeam Corp. of Denmark and later started to do child care out of her home, here she provided love and a safe haven for many of her children. She also enjoyed traveling while visiting Iceland, Germany and Idaho.
Survivors include a loving husband, Andrew Washington III of the home; two daughters, Loretta Washington ( Jerry ) Glasper of Bamberg and Antoinette Washington (Kenton) Ellis of Magnolia, Delaware; three brothers, Samuel ( Wilhelmina ) Sanders Jr. of Sumter, David Sanders of Denmark, and Willie Clay (Christine) Sanders of New York, New York; six grandchildren; and a special daughter, Kimberly W. Grantham. She also leaves behind her two great-grand dogs, Duchess and Spangle.
The Carroll Mortuary, Denmark Chapel will be in charge of the services.
Friends may call at the residence or at the church fellowship hall after the burial.
